Aug. 7 (UPI) -- Mike Piazza drove in the winning run in the top of the 13th inning Monday, lifting the Oakland Athletics to a 9-7 win over the Texas Rangers.
The A's scored two runs off Willie Eyre (3-5) in the deciding inning. Rob Bowen walked and went to second on Travis Buck's two-out sacrifice bunt before Eyre intentionally walked Nick Swisher. Piazza followed with his RBI single, scoring Bowen, and Mark Ellis added an insurance run with a single, scoring Swisher.
Kiko Calero sealed the deal by shutting down Texas in the bottom of the inning for his first save this year.
Marco Scutaro belted a grand slam and Piazza finished with three hits for the A's, who have won three of four.
Oakland starter Dallas Braden allowed three runs on six hits with a walk and seven strikeouts. Andrew Brown (2-0) got the win, throwing two scoreless innings.
Starter John Rheinecker gave up seven runs on nine hits with four walks and six strikeouts in five innings for Texas, which has lost five straight.
Jason Botts and Michael Young homered for the Rangers, who trailed 7-0 before tying the game in the ninth.
