
ST. LOUIS, Aug. 6 (UPI) -- Scott Rolen and Ryan Ludwick hit back-to-back homers in a 10-run fifth inning Monday as the St. Louis Cardinals bounced the San Diego Padres 10-5.
Rolen's homer was a three-run shot and David Eckstein drove in a pair of runs during the onslaught for the Cardinals, who ended a five-game losing streak.
So Taguchi, Albert Pujols and Juan Encarnacion each added two hits and an RBI for St. Louis, which has won four straight at home. Aaron Miles was 2-for-2 with an RBI to extend his hitting streak to 11 games.
Cardinals starting pitcher Braden Looper (9-9) got the win, allowing four runs on six hits while striking out six, in 6 1/3 innings. The right-hander also went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Adrian Gonzalez, Geoff Blum and Khalil Greene all hit homers for the Padres, who had a four-game win streak halted. San Diego fell two games behind idle Arizona for the lead in the NL West.
San Diego pitcher David Wells (5-8) gave up seven runs on 11 hits in four-plus innings.
