MLB: NY Mets 6, Chi. Cubs 2

CHICAGO, Aug. 3 (UPI) -- Carlos Delgado drove in the first of four runs in the ninth inning Friday as the New York Mets broke open a tie game and downed the Chicago Cubs, 6-2.

The Mets won their third straight while the Cubs have dropped five of their last seven.

With Ryan Dempster (2-4) on the mound for the Cubs in a 2-2 game, David Wright drew a lead-off walk in the ninth and came around to score on a double by Delgado.

Dempster retired the next two batters, but Shawn Green then drove in Delgado with a double, after which Ruben Gotay singled in Green. Gotay went to third on a base hit by Moises Alou and scored the fourth run of the inning on a single by Jose Reyes.

The win went to Guillermo Mota (1-0), who worked a scoreless eighth inning.
