Medina Garrigues ousted from Nordic Light

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Aug. 2 (UPI) -- No. 1-seeded Anabel Medina Garrigues dropped a three-set decision in second-round play at the $145,000 Nordic Light Open hard-court tennis tournament in Sweden.

The only set Medina Garrigues won on Thursday came in a tiebreaker as Dominika Cibulkova came away a 6-3, 6-7 (3-7), 6-3 winner. Cibulkova advances to Friday's quarterfinals against No. 8-seeded Vera Dushevina.

Also upset Thursday was sixth-seeded Elena Vesnina, who dropped a 7-5, 6-1 decision to Caroline Wozniacki. Wozniacki next faces No. 2-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska.

Stephanie Cohen-Aloro was a 5-7, 7-4, 6-2 winner Thursday over Youlia Fedossova and advanced into the quarterfinals and a match against Tsvetana Pironkova.

Friday's fourth quarterfinal sends third-seeded Emilie Loit against Julia Goerges.
