SEATTLE, Aug. 2 (UPI) -- Yuniesky Betancourt singled in Adrian Beltre from third with one out in the 12th inning Wednesday, propelling Seattle to an 8-7 win over the LA Angels.
Seattle moved to within three games of the division-leading Angels in the American League West.
Mariners closer J.J. Putz blew a save opportunity for only the second time all season when he gave up three runs in the ninth. But Seattle eventually prevailed against Justin Speier (0-2).
Beltre opened the 12th with a single and after Richie Sexson struck out, Jamie Burke was hit by a pitch.
Jose Lopez then delivered an infield hit, loading the bases, and Betancourt hit a 1-2 pitch into left field for the game-winning single.
The win went to Eric O'Flaherty (7-0), who recorded the third out in the top of the 12th.
