SAN DIEGO, Aug. 2 (UPI) -- Jake Peavy combined with two relievers to throw a three-hitter Thursday and passed 1,000 strikeouts for his career as San Diego blanked Arizona, 11-0.

Peavy (11-5) struck out 10, boosting his league-leading total to 154. His ERA also dropped to 2.30, second best in the National League behind teammate Chris Young.

Morgan Ensberg keyed the San Diego offense with two home runs.

Peavy reached 1,000 strikeouts when he fanned Jeff DaVanon to open the fourth. Cla Meredith and Wilfredo Ledezma worked an inning each behind Peavy.

It was the 15th shutout of the year for the Padres, tops in the majors.

Ensberg had three hits and scored twice as he paid quick dividends for the trade that brought him from Houston earlier in the week.

Adrian Gonzalez and Khalil Greene also homered.
