MLB: Tampa Bay 6, Toronto 2

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Carl Crawford put Tampa Bay in front with a two-run homer in the sixth Wednesday and the Devil Rays held on to down Toronto 6-2.

Crawford had three hits in helping the Devil Rays win for the third time in four games. He also homered in the 11th inning Monday night to give Tampa Bay a victory in the series opener. Jonny Gomes contributed a homer, while Brendan Harris drove in two runs in Wednesday's contest.

Tampa Bay faced a 2-1 deficit going into the sixth, but Akinori Iwamura tripled to lead off the inning and Crawford followed with his eighth homer of the year.

The winning blast came off Josh Towers (5-8), who gave up four runs on seven hits in 5 1/3.

Reliever Gary Glover (5-3) picked up the win, giving up a hit in two innings of work. Four relievers combined to allow two hits and one walk in six innings. Tampa Bay starter Jason Hammel left the game in the fourth with a strain of his right shoulder.
