Loit rallies for Nordic Light win

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Third-seeded Emilie Loit rallied for a three-set victory earning a quarterfinals spot in the $145,000 Nordic Light Open tennis tournament in Sweden.

Loit dropped the first set Wednesday but won a pair of tiebreakers, eliminating Ruano Pascual with a tough, 4-6, 7-6 (7-1), 7-6 (9-7), decision in second-round play of the hard-court tournament.

Loit will draw qualifier Julia Goerges in Friday's quarterfinals. Goerges was shutout the opening set before coming back for a 0-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) win over Klara Zakopalova.

Second-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska had a relatively easier time in the second round, defeating Marta Domachowska, 6-0, 6-3; and No. 8-seeded Vera Dushevina beat Emma Laine, 6-3, 6-3. Also Wednesday, Tsvetana Pironkova swept Anna-Lena Groenefeld, 6-4, 6-4.

Thursday's highlight match features top-seeded Anabel Medina Garrigues against Dominika Cibulkova in a second-round match.
