MLB: Texas 3, Cleveland 1

CLEVELAND, July 31 (UPI) -- Brandon McCarthy pitched into the seventh inning and Marlon Byrd drove in a run Tuesday as the Texas Rangers defeated the Cleveland Indians 3-1.

McCarthy (5-7) gave up one run on four hits with three walks in 6 2/3 innings to top Fausto Carmona (13-5), who lost for the first time in six starts.

Nelson Cruz homered for the Rangers.

Carmona surrendered three runs on five hits with one walk over seven innings. Ryan Garko scored the only Indians run with a homer.

The Rangers traded Mark Teixeira to Atlanta and Eric Gagne to Boston Tuesday.
