Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
SOPOT, Poland, July 30 (UPI) -- Fourth-seeded Italian Filippo Volandri and sixth-seeded Spaniard Nicolas Almagro were first-round losers Monday at the Orange Prokom Open.
Polish wild card Michal Przysiezny defeated Volandri 6-4, 2-6, 7-5, and Argentine Mariano Zabaleta beat Almagro 6-3, 7-5.
In other opening-round play, Spaniard Albert Montanes ousted Argentine Diego Hartfield 6-1, 6-3 and Argentine Jose Acasuso eliminated Austrian Werner Eschauer 6-2, 6-3.
Russian Igor Andreev was leading Ecuador's Nicolas Lapentti 6-0, 3-3 when their match was suspended for the day because of rain.
