SALT LAKE CITY, July 28 (UPI) -- Jeff Larentowicz scored on a perfect penalty kick in the 82nd minute Saturday night to give New England a 2-1 Major League Soccer win over Real Salt Lake.
The kick sailed just inside the far post to break a 1-1 tie and move the Revolution three points ahead of the second-place New York Red Bulls in the Eastern Conference.
Real Salt Lake lost it fourth consecutive match and remained stuck in the Western Conference cellar.
Larentowicz played a role in the game's first goal late in the first half. His long pass to the top of the box was headed by Taylor Twellman over to Pat Noonan, who shook off a defender and then beat Salt Lake goaltender Nick Rimando for his fourth goal of the season.
The hosts tied it, 1-1, when Carey Talley scored on a penalty kick in the 72nd minute. Talley had a chance to tie the game again following Larentowicz's goal, but his shot off another penalty kick went wide of the goal.
