Minor leaguer Sadler suspended 50 games

PHOENIX, July 28 (UPI) -- Infielder Donnie Sadler of Class AAA Tucson Saturday drew a 50-game suspension a drug policy violation.

On the Web site of Tucson's major-league affiliate Arizona, the Diamondbacks noted the 32-year-old Sadler tested positive for a drug of abuse, a violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. There was no disclosure of the drug involved.

Sadler is the 20th player suspended for violating the minors' drug program, the sixth for the abuse of a drug.

He appeared in one game for Arizona this season -- his first game in the majors since 2004.

He has a career average of .202 in eight major league seasons with six home runs and 46 RBI while playing for Arizona, Boston, Cincinnati, Kansas City, and Texas.

With Tucson, Sadler's batting average was just .214.

With the parent club, he was knocked unconscious during batting practice when a ball struck him in his head before a May 12 game against the New York Mets.
