
ST. LOUIS, July 28 (UPI) -- Ryan Ludwick hit a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the ninth Saturday as St. Louis edged Milwaukee 7-6 in the opener of a doubleheader.
It was his only hit of the game but it capped a three-run rally. Albert Pujols, who finished with two RBI, a run scored and two hits, and Scott Rolen also drove in runs in the comeback.
Juan Encarnacion drove in three runs and scored once, and So Taguchi had a run and two hits as the Cardinals won for the second time in their last three games.
The winner was Russ Springer (5-1).
Milwaukee's Ryan Braun drove in three runs with three hits -- one a solo homer in the first that was his 18th of the season -- and starter Manny Parra hit a two-run double in the third.
Craig Counsell drove in one run for the Brewers, who have dropped four of five.
The losing pitcher was Francisco Cordero (0-4).
