SAN FRANCISCO, July 28 (UPI) -- Barry Bonds hit his 754th MLB career home Friday night and the San Francisco Giants held on to beat Florida, 12-10.
Bonds went deep with a solo shot in the first inning -- his 20th home run of the season -- on a 2-1 pitch from Rick Vanden Hurk to put the Giants up, 2-1.
Bonds then walked in the third, fifth, sixth and eighth innings -- and remained within one of Hank Aaron's all-time MLB home run record.
The Giants had four homers in all -- including back-to-back round-trippers by Pedro Feliz and Bengie Molina in the fifth, and a two-run homer by Ray Durham in the sixth. Durham and Feliz each drove in three runs for the Giants, who won their third straight.
Hanley Ramirez homered and had four RBI for Florida, which lost its fifth straight.
Vinnie Chulk (4-2) pitched two-thirds of an inning in relief to get the win.
Renyel Pinto (2-4) gave up four runs in the sixth inning to take the loss.
Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig was not in San Francisco for the game, because he was preparing for Saturday's Hall of Fame induction ceremonies at Cooperstown, N.Y.
