Kane, 18, was taken first in June's NHL entry draft. He led the Ontario Hockey League in scoring last year with 62 goals and 83 assists in 58 games while playing for the London Knights.

"Patrick is a dynamic and exciting young player," said Blackhawks General Manager Dale Tallon. "We're pleased that he will begin a long and productive career with the Blackhawks when we open camp on Sept. 13."

A native of Buffalo N.Y., Kane won several honors in the Ontario Hockey Leagues last season -- including leading scorer, rookie of the year, top draft prospect and first team all-star.
