Commissioner to attend Bonds' games

SAN FRANCISCO, July 24 (UPI) -- Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig said Tuesday he will attend Barry Bonds' next games as the Giants outfielder tries for the home run record.

Bonds has 753 career home runs, two short of Hank Aaron's record.

Selig, who was on hand when Bonds and the Giants played the Milwaukee Brewers over the weekend, didn't make the trip to San Francisco as the Giants began a seven-game homestand Monday.

"Throughout this season, I have watched Barry Bonds' pursuit of the home run record," Selig said. "Now that he is on the verge of tying the record, the time has come to announce that I will make every attempt to attend the record-setting moment."

Bonds is suspected of using steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs. A federal grand jury is investigating whether Bonds perjured himself nearly four years ago when he told a previous grand jury he had not knowingly taken steroids.
