KITZBUHEL, Austria, July 23 (UPI) -- Austrian qualifier Rainer Eitzinger posted a first-round victory Monday in the clay-court $1.085 million Austrian Open.
Eitzinger made the home-court crowd happy with a tight 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (7-3) win over Max Mirnyi to highlight the first day action at the tournament. Eitzinger's victory sends him into a second-round match against defending champion Agustin Calleri.
Luis Horna swept aside qualifier Jeremy Chardy 7-5, 6-3 to move into the tournament's second round while Christophe Rochus, like Eitzinger a qualifier, took a tough 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (12-10) decision from Chris Guccione and Olivier Patience defeated Jan Hajek 6-3, 6-2.
Also, Paul Capdeville and Diego Hartfield claiming first-round wins.
Calleri was among the highly seeded players to get first-round byes. The top seeds for the Austrian Open are world No. 7 Tommy Robredo and 13th-ranked Mikhail Youzhny.
