Davydenko bounced from Croatia Open

UMAG, Croatia, July 23 (UPI) -- Second-seeded Nikolay Davydenko was a first-round upset victim Monday at the $485,000 clay-court Croatia Open.

Davydenko rallied from a set down to tie his match with Gilles Simon but the French player won the decisive third set for the 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 upset.

Top-seeded and last year's Croatia Open runner-up Novak Djokovic had little trouble with his first-round opponent, dispatching Pablo Andujar 6-2, 6-3. Djokovic is 47-11 on the season.

Also Monday, Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo swept out Gaston Gaudio 6-0, 6-4; Carlos Berlocq defeated Maximo Gonzalez 6-3, 6-4; qualifier Pere Riba got by Luca Belic 6-2, 2-6, 6-4; and local favorite Marin Cilic topped Mathieu Montcourt 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.
