LOS ANGELES, July 22 (UPI) -- Czech Radek Stepanek upset second-seeded American James Blake in three sets Sunday to win the Countrywide Classic.

Stepanek, 28, defeated Blake 7-6 (9-7), 5-7, 6-2 to win his first title of the year and just the second of his career.

Stepanek has defeated Blake twice in his career. He advanced to Sunday's final after German wildcard Nicolas Kiefer withdrew before their semifinal match Saturday because of a knee injury.

Blake, who was looking for his second title of the year and 10th overall of his career, beat seventh-seeded South Korean Hyung-Taik Lee in the semifinals to move into Sunday's final.
