EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., July 22 (UPI) -- John Wolyniec scored the game's only goal Sunday as the New York Red Bulls posted a 1-0 victory over D.C. United.

The Red Bulls earned three points to even the season series with United at one win apiece. The win also pushed New York into a tie with New England atop the Eastern Conference -- as the Revolution earned a tie against Houston Sunday.

With the loss, D.C. falls to fifth in the conference, just three points back.

The game's lone goal was made possible by a New York free kick from the midfield after team captain Claudio Reyna was fouled while going up for a 50-50 ball.
