NURBURG, Germany, July 21 (UPI) -- Kimi Raikkonen clocked a 1-minute, 31.45-second lap to win pole position in Sunday's Grand Prix of Europe.

Raikkonen guided his Ferrari around the 3.2-mile course at Nurburg, Germany, Saturday faster than the rest of the field, including Formula One points leader Lewis Hamilton, who cracked up his car into a tire wall and was taken off on a stretcher.

Hamilton will be alright, team officials said, although he was taken to a hospital for observation.

Raikkonen won the pole for the second time this year and will join Fernando Alonso in the front row Sunday after a qualifying run of 1 minute, 31.74 seconds. Felipe Massa and Nick Heidfeld will start in the second row.
