Ortiz sued for not signing memorabilia

NEW YORK, July 21 (UPI) -- Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz has been accused in a lawsuit of shorting a New York sports memorabilia company on the number of collectibles he signed.

The New York Daily News reported Saturday that "Big Pappi" was sued for $1 million Friday by Steiner Sports Marketing of New Rochelle, for allegedly failing to hold up his end of a contract to autograph some 13,000 items, and for skipping out on public autograph sessions and corporate "meet-and-greet" events.

The suit, filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, accuses Ortiz of violating the exclusive deal by "peddling autographed memorabilia to at least four other companies" and, on some occasions, accepting cash payments for his services.
