MIAMI, July 18 (UPI) -- Kip Wells gave up two hits in eight scoreless innings Wednesday as St. Louis blanked Florida 6-0.
The veteran right-hander atoned partially for his season-long ineptitude on the mound with two walks and four strikeouts. He did not allow a runner past first base while improving to just 4-12 this season.
St. Louis' Juan Encarnacion had three hits and three RBI.
So Taguchi had two hits and two RBI, while Albert Pujols had one run, two hits, and one RBI. Both David Eckstein and Brendan Ryan had a run and two hits for the Cardinals, who have won three of four.
Miguel Cabrera had two of the three hits for the Marlins, who have lost two of three.
Losing pitcher Dontrelle Willis (7-9) surrendered six earned runs and 11 hits in three innings. It was his ninth straight start without a victory.
