DURHAM, N.C., July 18 (UPI) -- Duke men's basketball guard DeMarcus Nelson is recovering from surgery for a wrist injury he sustained during the Pan American Games Trials in Haverford, Pa.
The rising senior from Elk Grove, Calif. suffered the injury last Thursday.
"We are happy with the outcome of procedure," said Duke Coach Mike Krzyzewski on the Blue Devils' Web site after the Tuesday surgery at Duke Medical Center. "Despite the injury, he and I are both glad he had the opportunity to participate in the Pan American Games Trials. We look forward to having him back at 100 percent for the season."
Nelson averaged a team-high 14.1 points and five rebounds per game last season. He is expected to need 6-8 weeks recovery time.
Nelson is the second potential Duke starter for next winter to have surgery this month. Center Brian Zoubek will be sidelined at least eight weeks after surgery July 10 to repair a left-foot fracture.
