MLB: Boston 4, Kansas City 0

BOSTON, July 16 (UPI) -- Kason Gabbard pitched his first major league shutout Monday as the Boston Red Sox blanked the Kansas City Royals 4-0.

Gabbard (3-0) gave up just three hits, a walk and two hit batters while striking out eight for his first complete game for the Red Sox, who have won two of their last three games.

David Ortiz hit a two-run home run, Manny Ramirez hit a solo homer and Dustin Pedroia also hit a solo homer and scored twice.

Emil Brown went 2-for-3 and Brian Bannister (5-6) was plagued by the long ball as he gave up four runs on five hits in six innings for the Royals, who have lost three of four.
