Andreev surprises Gasquet in quarterfinals

GSTAAD, Switzerland, July 13 (UPI) -- Igor Andreev pulled off an upset Friday, eliminating defending champion and Wimbledon semifinalist Richard Gasquet at the Swiss Open.

Andreev won a quarterfinal match over the third-seeded Gasquet, 7-5, 6-2. Gasquet had captured seven straight matches in the tournament.

Andreev will celebrate his 24th birthday Saturday by playing Andreas Seppi, who advanced with a 6-4, 6-0, win over Martin Vassallo Arguello.

Fifth-seeded Paul-Henri Mathieu, the only seed remaining in the event, recorded a 6-1, 4-6, 6-3, victory over Gael Monfils. Radek Stepanek surprised sixth-seeded Marc Gicquel, 6-3, 6-3.
