Sutter announced his resignation Thursday from the positions of general manager and head coach of the Red Deer Rebels of the Western Hockey League. TSN of Canada reported Sutter would fill the current coaching vacancy with the Devils.

Sutter played for 18 seasons with the New York Islanders and Chicago Blackhawks. He is one of six brothers from the same family to have played in the NHL.

Claude Julien, in his first year with the Devils, coached the team to a 47-24-8 record. Even though the team was in first place, Julien was dismissed with three games remaining in the regular season and replaced on an interim basis by General Manager Lou Lamoriello.
