Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

PHILADELPHIA, July 11 (UPI) -- Thaddeus Young and Jason Smith, first-round picks in last month's NBA draft, have signed contracts with the Philadelphia 76ers.
Terms of the deals weren't released when the team announced the signings Wednesday.
Young, a swingman, was the 12th overall pick in the draft. He played for Georgia Tech for one season, leading the Yellow Jackets with a 14.4 point-per-game average.
Smith, a center, was taken 20th by Miami, but the Heat traded his signing rights to Philadelphia during the draft. in exchange for 21st overall pick Daequan Cook, a 2009 second-round draft pick and cash. Smith averaged 16.8 points and 10.1 rebounds a game last season as a junior at Colorado State.
