Fifth-seeded Filippo Volandri also wrapped up a quarterfinals slot, rebounding from a set down for a, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, win over Yuri Schukin. Volandri Friday is to play Olivier Rochus, who posted a 6-4, 7-5, win over Lukas Dlouhy in the second round.

Four second-round matches are set for Thursday, including matches involving No. 2-seeded David Ferrer, fourth-seeded Carlos Moya and No. 6 Robin Soderling.
