COMPIEGNE, France, July 10 (UPI) -- Fabian Cancellara Tuesday won the longest stage of the 2007 Tour de France and increased his overall lead in the race to 33 seconds.

Cancellara completed the 142-mile ride from Waregam, Belgium, to Compiegne, France, in 6 hours, 36 minutes and 15 seconds nipping Erik Zabel by a bike length. Danilo Napolitano was third.

Gert Steegmans, who won Stage 2 Monday, was involved in a pileup and finished Tuesday's stage in 83rd place.

Cancellara's Tour lead over Andreas Kloden increased from 13 to 33 seconds in Tuesday's stage.

Stage 4 in the 20-stage race is scheduled for Wednesday and involves a 116-mile route from Villers-Cotterets to Joigny east of Paris.
