Tigers' Neifi Perez suspended for 25 games

NEW YORK, July 6 (UPI) -- Detroit Tigers infielder Neifi Perez was suspended for 25 games by Major League Baseball for testing positive for a banned stimulant.

The suspension is effective immediately, the office of the commissioner announced Friday.

Perez, 34, was hitting .172 with one home run and six runs batted in after playing in 33 games for Detroit this year. The 11-year veteran has played for five major league teams and owns a career batting average of .267 over 1,403 games.
