Nadal taken to five sets but advances

WIMBLEDON, England, July 5 (UPI) -- Second-seeded Rafael Nadal rallied from a two-set deficit Thursday and advanced to the men's semifinals of The Championships at Wimbledon, England.

Four fourth-round matches, including Nadal's were completed Thursday but semifinals involving world No. 1 Roger Federer and third-seeded Andy Roddick were postponed by rain.

Federer was tied with 20th-seeded Juan Carlos Ferrero 5-5 with Federer serving at deuce in the 11th game of the first set. Roddick and opponent 12th-seeded Richard Gasquet never even warmed up before play was halted.

Nadal dropped the first two sets to 14th-seeded Mikhail Youzhny but dropped just five games over the next three sets -- and never had his serve broken -- in the 4-6, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 victory.

The world's second-ranked player goes against seventh-seeded Tomas Berdych in Friday's semifinals. Berdych ousted Jonas Bjorkman 6-4, 6-0, 6-7 (6-8), 6-0 in his quarterfinal.

Fourth-seeded Novak Djokovic won three tiebreakers in his quarterfinal Thursday. Hard-luck loser Lleyton Hewitt, seeded 16th, won 24 games but dropped the match 7-6 (10-8), 7-6 (7-2), 4-6, 7-6 (7-5).

Marcos Baghdatis posted a straight-set upset of sixth-seeded Nikolay Davydenko, winning 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-5), 6-3. Baghdatis goes against Djokovic in the semifinals.
