ST. LOUIS, July 3 (UPI) -- Yusmeiro Petit, called up to replace the injured Randy Johnson, pitched into the sixth inning Tuesday, helping Arizona beat the St. Louis Cardinals 7-1.

Petit, recalled from Class AAA Tucson prior to the game, pitched 5 1/3 innings and gave up just one run on five hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

Johnson was placed on the 15-day disabled for the third time this season prior to the game with a recurring back problem.

Chris Young hit a home run and Chad Tracy and Mark Reynolds hit back-to-back homers in the third inning for the Diamondbacks.

Albert Pujols had three singles and Scott Rolen drove in the only run for the Cardinals. Todd Wellemeyer (2-2) suffered the loss after allowing six runs on seven hits through three innings.
