DETROIT, July 1 (UPI) -- A pitchers' duel between Jeremy Bonderman and Scott Baker went to Bonderman Sunday, when Marcus Thames homered and the Detroit Tigers beat Minnesota, 1-0.
Thames' eighth-inning homer was one of just three hits for the Tigers -- but Bonderman (9-1) held the Twins to six hits over eight innings to pick up his ninth decision in 10 starts. He walked one and struck out seven.
Todd Jones got the Twins out in order in the ninth to earn his 20th save of the season, as the Tigers won for just the second time in their last six games.
Baker (2-3) checked the Tigers on three hits in eight innings -- but one of those was the game-winning homer -- as the Twins had a three-game winning streak broken.
The Twins had runners on first and second with two outs in both the second and third innings, but could not bring anyone home.
