MLB: Florida 9, Pittsburgh 7

MIAMI, June 28 (UPI) -- Florida's Brett Carroll and Matt Treanor both drove in two runs Thursday afternoon and the Marlins held on for a 9-7 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Florida built an 8-2 lead through five innings and needed the big advantage because the Pirates put up five runs in the seventh to make the score close.

The Marlins' lead came in a four-run first inning, in which Carroll chipped in a two-ruin single and Treanor's two-run home run in the fifth.

Five other Florida players each drove in one run and Hanley Ramirez had three of the team's 15 hits as the Marlins avoided a three-game sweep.

Winner Scott Olsen (6-6) yielded five earned runs and seven hits in six innings with two walks and 10 strikeouts. Kevin Gregg, the last of five Marlin relievers, earned his 15th save.

For Pittsburgh, Adam Laroche had three hits, one a two-run homer in the fourth, and five others had one RBI.

Freddy Sanchez also had three hits for the Pirates, who were after their first road sweep of Florida since 1993.

The loser was Zach Duke (3-7).
