Frank Thomas collects HR No. 500

MINNEAPOLIS, June 28 (UPI) -- Toronto's Frank Thomas connected for a 396-foot shot Thursday afternoon in Minnesota, making him the 21st MLB player to hit 500 home runs in his career.

Thomas hit a three-run home run in the first inning of the Blue Jays' game at Minnesota for his 13th homer of the season and 500th of a career that began in 1990. He sent the pitch from the Twins' Carlos Silva deep into the left-field stands.

"It was a great feeling," he said. "A big smile came to my face. This was a big goal and a big dream."

The day was marred by Thomas' ejection in the ninth inning for arguing balls and strikes, and the two homers and three RBI for Torii Hunter in Minnesota's come-from-behind, 8-5, victory.

Thomas is four home runs behind longtime Baltimore slugger Eddie Murray for 20th on the all-time list.

Thomas earlier this season eclipsed Edgar Martinez's record of 243 home runs by a designated hitter.
