New Zealand rebounds at America's Cup

VALENCIA, Spain, June 24 (UPI) -- Emirates Team New Zealand Sunday beat the Swiss yacht Alinghi to even the Americas Cup Finals in Spain at one race apiece.

Alinghi, which had taken a 1-0 advantage by winning Saturday's opener by 35 seconds, held the lead for the first two legs of Sunday's race. But then Emirates passed Alinghi on the third leg off the coast of Valencia, Spain, and was 28 seconds ahead when Sunday's race was finished.

"It was huge for the team to come back from behind," said New Zealand's Ray Davies. "That's always a huge booster and there is nothing worse than going into a day off on a loss because the only way to recover from a loss is to get back out there and redeem yourself. So it's just been huge for the team to square it all up again and get a win on the board."

Race 3 in the best-of-nine series is Tuesday.
