WAUKEGAN, Ill., June 24 (UPI) -- Former Chicago Bears safety Dave Duerson is under orders to pay nearly $550,000 or risk losing his home in a foreclosure case in Illinois.

Duerson, who won Super Bowls with both the Bears and the New York Giants, was ordered to pay back money he owed on his Highland Park, Ill., home or risk having the property seized by local authorities, the Chicago Tribune said Sunday.

After hearing the court's ruling June 14, the former NFL defensive back offered a succinct response from his $1.6 million home.

"It sucks," 46-year-old said of the court's decision.

The ruling also represents the most recent hardship for the four-time NFL Pro Bowler, who saw his Duerson Foods forced into receivership nearly 10 months ago.

In addition, the former Bears standout divorced his wife of 24 years last month, a move he blamed on his football history.

"Eighty percent of the marriages in the NFL fail, and 90 percent if you're an All-Pro," Duerson told the Tribune. "When you're in the public eye, there are so many elements added to it."
