ARLINGTON, Texas, June 20 (UPI) -- Sammy Sosa hit the 600th home run of his career Wednesday and did so against his former team as Texas downed the Chicago Cubs 7-3.
Sosa joined Hank Aaron, Barry Bonds, Babe Ruth and Willie Mays as the only players with at least 600 homers when he hit a 1-2 pitch off Jason Marquis over the wall in right-center with two away in the fifth.
Having won a spot on the Texas roster in spring training after sitting out the 2006 season, Sosa has 12 home runs this year. His solo blast gave the Rangers a 5-1 lead and he twice came out of the dugout to acknowledge the cheers of the crowd and members of the Cubs as well.
Sosa played 13 years for the Cubs after having originally been signed by the Rangers.
Kameron Loe (3-6) won his second straight start, giving up six hits and three runs over 6 2/3.
Marquis (5-4) has not won in eight consecutive appearances. He allowed five hits and six runs over five innings.
