FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga., June 21 (UPI) -- Veteran Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Brian Finneran will miss his second straight season this fall because of knee surgery.
Last week, the former Villanova product had his second reconstructive surgery on his left knee in two years.
The 6-foot-5 Finneran hurt the knee again in May while going through rehabilitation.
Finneran signed a four-year, $8 million contract in March 2006, including $3 million in guaranteed money.
Four months later, he suffered a torn left knee ligament, cartilage damage and a slight displacement of the knee cap.
"He had a lot of differing (medical) opinions and decided last week to go in and get the reconstruction surgery," said Coach Bobby Petrino on the Falcons' Web site. "It's a 9- to 12-month recovery period."
In his career, Finneran, 31, has 15 touchdowns on 187 receptions for 2,647 yards in 86 games.
