Schilling says no damage to shoulder

BOSTON, June 20 (UPI) -- Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling said Wednesday that tests on his right shoulder showed no structural damage.

However, Schilling said it was unclear whether he would be able to pitch this weekend at San Diego, his next regular turn in the Red Sox rotation.

He underwent an MRI in Boston on his right -- throwing -- shoulder.

Schilling, interviewed on Boston radio station WEEI-AM, said: "I had an injection yesterday so I'm giving it a couple of days here to see how it plays out. The best case is that I'll be pitching on Sunday ... but that doesn't seem like that's going to be the case."

The Red Sox sent Schilling back to Boston after he gave up six runs and 10 hits in 4 1/3 innings at Atlanta Monday. It was his second consecutive poor outing since he pitched a one-hitter June 7.

Schilling, 40, is 6-4 this season with a 4.20 ERA in 15 starts.
