Tursunov, Henman win Nottingham openers

NOTTINGHAM, England, June 19 (UPI) -- Second-seeded Russian Dmitry Tursunov and former Top 10 Englishman Tim Henman led Tuesday's first-round winners at The Nottingham Open.

Tursunov defeated American Robert Kendrick 6-1, 6-4. Henman, playing his first tennis in Nottingham in seven years, beat American Michael Russell 6-1, 7-6 (7-5).

Henman plays Tursunov Wednesday.

Russian Igor Kunitsyn upset third-seeded Argentine Agustin Calleri 7-6 (10-8), 3-6, 6-4, and 6-foot-10 Croat Ivo Karlovic beat seventh-seeded Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka 6-3, 7-6 (7-3).

Also Tuesday, fourth-seeded Swede Jonas Bjorkman beat British wild card Richard Bloomfield 6-2, 6-0, and sixth-seeded Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu defeated American Robby Ginepri 6-3, 6-4.

Bjorkman, the 2006 Wimbledon semifinalist, Bjorkman was last year's runner-up here to Frenchman Richard Gasquet.
