EASTBOURNE, England, June 18 (UPI) -- Fifth-seeded Czech Nicole Vaidisova was among Monday's first-round tennis winners at the $600,000 International Women's Open.
Vaidisova defeated Australian Samantha Stosur 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.

In other first-day play, Czech Lucie Safarova beat German Anna-Lena Groenefeld 7-6 (7-0), 7-6 (7-5) and Britain's Melanie South beat fellow wild card Alicia Molik of Australia 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-3).
This week's top seeds are Wimbledon runner-up and reigning three-time French Open champion Justine Henin and Wimbledon champion Amelie Mauresmo. The Belgian Henin beat Russian Anastasia Myskina in last year's Eastbourne finale.
