
'S-HERTOGENBOSCH, Netherlands, June 18 (UPI) -- Defending champion Michaella Krajicek of the Netherlands was among the women's first-round winners Monday at the Ordina Open.
Krajicek defeated Argentine Gisela Dulko 6-3, 6-2. The Dutch teen beat Russian Dinara Safina in last year's final.
The fourth-seeded Safina was leading France's Camille Pin 6-3, 2-2 on Monday when their match was suspended because of rain. If Safina can hold on Tuesday, she would meet Krajicek in a rematch in the second round.
In other Monday action involving seeds, German Tatjana Malek upset No. 6 Slovenian Katarina Srebotnik 6-3, 6-2, Russian Elena Vesnina beat No. 7 Spaniard Anabel Medina Garrigues 7-6 (7-4), 3-6, 6-3, and No. 8 Ukrainian Alona Bondarenko crushed Dutch wild card Arantxa Rus 6-1, 6-1.
