DETROIT, June 14 (UPI) -- Ben Sheets recorded the 1,000th strikeout of his career Thursday and gave up three runs over 5 2/3 innings as the Milwaukee Brewers nipped Detroit, 6-5.
Sheets (7-3), in his seventh season with the Brewers, reached the milestone in the fourth inning with a strikeout of Mike Rabelo. He finished the game with 1,003 career strikeouts and 61 for the season.
Johnny Estrada had three hits and Corey Hart hit a solo homer for the Brewers, who defeated the Tigers in the last two games of the series after being no-hit Tuesday.
Chad Durbin (5-3) gave up two runs on eight hits in 3 2/3 innings to take the loss.
Milwaukee had a 6-3 lead going into the ninth before the Tigers scored twice against closer Francisco Cordero.
After Detroit closed within a run, Cordero struck out Craig Monroe and Rabelo to end the game and pick up his 24th save.
