PHILADELPHIA, June 13 (UPI) -- Aaron Rowand hit a grand slam Wednesday afternoon, powering the Philadelphia Phillies to an 8-4 victory and a three-game sweep of the Chicago White Sox.
Wes Helms also hit a home run for Philadelphia, which has won seven of its last nine games. Chicago has lost eight of its last nine.
Kyle Kendrick, making his major league debut, started for the Phillies, but Ryan Madson (1-2) pitched the seventh ahead of Rowand homer to pick up the win.
The score was tied 3-3 going into the Philadelphia seventh when Phillies struck for five runs. Chase Utley led off with a double and, after a walk scored on Abraham Nunez's single. Another walk loaded the bases and Rowand drilled his bases-loaded home run over the left-field wall to hand Matt Thornton (2-2) the loss.
Chicago added a run in the eighth, with Jim Thome scoring on A.J. Pierzynski's groundout but got no closer.
The teams had traded one-run innings to build a 3-3 score, with the last tie coming on an RBI single by Rowand in the sixth inning.
