Rodriguez, Sheffield share AL weekly award

NEW YORK, June 11 (UPI) -- New York Yankee Alex Rodriguez and Detroit Tiger Gary Sheffield were named Monday as the American League's top players of the week.

Rodriguez earned his second Player of the Week award this year after posting a batting average of .400 with a .960 slugging percentage and a .515 on-base percentage. He had four home runs, 16 RBI and scored seven runs in seven games last week.

The two-time AL MVP had five multi-RBI performances last week. He shared the honor in the first week of the season with Angels outfielder Vladimir Guerrero.

Sheffield also had four homers with 11 runs batted in last week, while batting .417 with a 1.000 slugging percentage. He had three multi-RBI efforts in six games last week.
