Kenny Rogers to make minor league start

DETROIT, June 9 (UPI) -- Detroit Tigers starter Kenny Rogers is set to make a rehab start for Triple-A Toledo.

The veteran left-hander has been on the Tigers' disabled list since spring training with a blood clot in his shoulder. He will face live hitting Sunday night for the first time since he threw three scoreless innings in Detroit's five-game loss to St. Louis in the 2006 World Series.

"I'm ready," Rogers said on Detroit's Web site. "It's nice to hopefully get out there and just be competing again. When you've had a few months off and all the stuff that went on, you don't take things for granted."

The veteran southpaw started for the American League in July's All-Star game last season.

In the regular season, he went 17-8 with an ERA of 3.84. He walked 62 batters and struck out 99 in 204 innings.

Rogers' career record is 207-139 -- with 49 victories in the last three seasons.
