Baseball suspends A.J. Pierzynski

NEW YORK, June 9 (UPI) -- Chicago White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski was suspended Saturday for one game for inappropriate actions during a game against the New York Yankees.

Major League Baseball also fined the veteran back-stop an undisclosed amount.

In the bottom of the eighth inning of the White Sox' 10-3 loss Thursday, he vehemently argued a third-strike call and pounded the plate with his bat in disgust.

"I was just frustrated," Pierzynski said on the team's Web site after he was ejected by home plate umpire Bob Davidson.

He was in the lineup for Saturday's game against Houston, which means he has appealed and the suspension will not be in effect until the appeals process is complete.

Going into the contest against the Astros, Pierzynski was hitting .251 with eight home runs and 21 RBI in 183 at-bats this season.
