VIENNA, June 7 (UPI) -- Graeme Storm tied the course record with a 63 Thursday for a one-stroke lead after the first round of the BA-CA Golf Open in Austria.
Storm, who withdrew from last week's U.S. Open qualifier because he thought he was playing poorly, was six-under through nine holes and finished the day at eight-under. That tied the Fontana Golf Club record.
Martin Erlandsson recorded five consecutive birdies in one stretch Thursday and is in second place at seven-under-par 64. Patrik Sjoland, Shaun Webster and Thom Whitehouse are tied for third at minus-six 65.
Storm opened on the back nine Thursday and had birdies on the first three holes. He added a birdie at the par 5 15th hole and made a 25-foot putt on 18 for an eagle to make the turn at six-under.
He turned in seventh consecutive pars but made a 7-footer at No. 8 for a birdie and tied the course record with an up-and-down birdie on his final hole.
